Aside from using the right hashtags for Instagram, you also need to write an inciting caption. An interesting Instagram caption will make sure than your followers will spend more time with your post and comment on it.

This again, is a signal to the Instagram Algorithm. And the Instagram Algorithm has become significantly more difficult since I started my own Instagram Account (@fernwehsarah) in January 2018 and grew it to 15k followers within six months.

What is a “good Instagram caption” and why do you need one?

A “good Instagram Caption” does stop your Instagram Followers from scrolling to the next picture. It makes then look for the full description and swipe a carousel post.

A good Instagram caption motivates your followers to comment on your photo. And more important, it motivates them to write more than “oh wow, so beautiful!”. You can even have a real discussion about a topic on your Instagram post if you wrote a good Instagram caption.

Studies have shown, that only 1% of Instagram posts do not have a caption!

There are different types of Instagram captions

Let’s have a look at the different types of Instagram captions to understand how you can write a good Instagram caption!

The “Funny Instagram caption”

The funny Instagram caption will make a little joke that can but doesn’t have to do anything with the picture you posted. Example: “Of course I do marathons. On Netflix” or “When Life gives you lemons, ask for tequila and salt”

I think, funny captions work great because they make your reader happy. And people come to Instagram to be happy. Instagram is “a happy place” – that’s why everything is pretty there (and everyone’s live seems to be amazing”

The “Thoughtful Instagram caption”

The opposite of the funny Instagram caption is the “thoughtful” caption. A lot of good Instagram captions are from people talking about a subject they care about. Or they give a positive and motivational word to your followers and make them think and feel good. Example: “Be brave. Be kind. Be yourself” or “Dream the impossible – because some dreams DO become true!”

The Personal Instagram caption

Another way to write a good Instagram caption can be to simply write about your day. Remember, your followers are your followers because they are interested in YOU. So tell them something about your life – what happened to you or what is important to you.

For example, I often tell my followers about secret photo spots in a city or how they explore a place fore less – and they always love these type of posts!
