Are you looking for some awesome London Hashtags for Instagram? You have come to the right place! 🙂
Hashtag Research is one of the keys to success on Instagram in 2019 (and was before!) – so picking the right hashtags will give you the best results. And with results we mean likes and exposure!
We know that it has become much more difficult to be seen on Instagram these days. But I grew my own Instagram account (@fernwehsarah) to 35,000 followers within just 18 months – and I constantly get around 1,500 – 3,000 likes on EACH picture. (Even with the recent algorithm changes!) It’s still possible if you know how to! And hashtags do play an important role in being successful on Instagram!
If you want to read more about my personal story on Instagram, I also published a blog post about how I got 15,000 Instagram followers within 6 months.
And last but not least, I do edit all my pictures with my own Lightroom Presets for Instagram – they are optimized to give your pictures that perfect Instagram Look with just one click! And of course, they are available for the free mobile version of Lightroom too!Fr

What you need to know about Hashtags in 2019
There’s a few things you should know about how to use hashtags in 2019 to get the maximum exposure. It’s not that everything has changed in 2019 – but let me just quickly sum up the basic rules about using hashtags on Instagram:
You can use up to 30 hashtags
You can still use up to 30 hashtags and you should definitely use them!
I know that some people advise you to limit yourself to only a few hashtags. But it simply does not make any sense. Each hashtags has the potential to give you exposure and like if used right. And by using less hashtags, you will only limit your ability to be discovered!
Very big influencers do use less hashtags – but they do it because they don’t need that exposure anymore and because they can go for “the big ones” only. But if you still have less than 100k followers, then, for god’s sake, use your 30 hashtags! 🙂
If you don’t use all hashtags sometimes because you are too lazy to select them everyday, then you should have a look at Tailwind for Instagram and their awesome Hashtag Finder 2.0. (see a video of it in action in my review of the Hashtag Finder!)
It does NOT matter where you put the hashtags
Some people put the hashtags in the caption, some put them in the first comment. Long story short: it does not matter. Whether you put your hashtags into one or the other or both: as long as you use those 30 hashtags, both is fine!
Your “hashtag size” depends on your account size
You should use hashtags based on their “size” and on your account size. It’s a bit like fashion: if you are wearing the wrong size, it’s not gonna look good and people won’t like your outfit.
The more popular a hashtag is (the more posts it already has), the less likely are your chances of being seen in the “TOP” posts section. Even though this section is personalized (yes, not everyone is seeing the same TOP posts!) it is still a good indicator if your post performs well. And you want to reach that top posts!
So here’s my advice: Go for your usual account likes and check your favorite hashtags on how many likes the top posts there have. And then compare their likes with yours. This will give you an idea if you can “bid” for those positions with your account size.
As a rough estimate – go mainly for hashtag for the following size:
- <20k if your account gets less than 300 likes on average
- 20-50k if you have around 300-700 likes
- 50-100k if you get 700-1,300 likes
- 100-250k if you get 1,300-2,000 likes
- 250k-1M if you get 2,000-5,000 likes
- >1M if you have more than 5,000 likes
You can use hashtags “smaller than your size” and add a few “bigger” ones too – just try to keep the majority within your range and you are good to go!
You should not only use London hashtags
Yes, you came here because you are looking for London hashtags. But if you create a new post, you should also add a few other ones to maximize your exposure!
With every post, try adding some hashtags about:
- The location the pic was shot
- What you were doing
- The style / outfit you are wearing
- (Something about your caption)
- (Something about you and your account)
Especially with the location, try to be as specific as possible first, and then gradually add less specific ones! Look at this pic from me below:

I did add hashtags about the specific location (Galerie Lafayette) as well as the general ones (Paris hashtags), my outfit style (Pinup style) and the situation / caption (Instagram vs. Reality). I also added some general travel hashtags in both English and German as I am a travel blogger and share lots of travel content on Instagram.
Don’t forget to tag accounts and locations
Last but not least, don’t forget the other tags that you can use – tag other accounts that feature pictures and make sure to tag the location (both as a geo tag as well as a “person tag” if they have an account).
You can tag one location and up to 20 accounts – use these too!
The best London Hashtags for Instagram by size
As mentioned above, you should primarily target Lodon hashtags where you can reach the top posts. That’s why I split up and sorted this hashtags for friends list based on their size!
Oh, and did I mention that I also have a comprehensive guide on the best hashtags for European cities?

Get my style - awesome fashion from Amazon!
By the way, did you know that I have an Amazon Influencer Store?
You can find all my outfits from Instagram there – as well as some other outfit inspirations. I created lists for “Instagrammable dresses”, “Disney Outfit Inspirations”, “Awesome cheap evening gowns”, “Affordable Summer Dresses” and many more as a shopping inspiration for you!
Amazon does not pay me to have this store, neither am I sponsored by them in any way. Basically the store is nothing more than a way for me to preset my ideas to you on Amazon directly instead of on a blog post as I can add lists and tag products on pictures of me.
But in case you buy something on Amazon from one of my inspiration lists, I will earn a small commission on that because I am an Amazon Affiliate. This commission does not come at any extra cost to you – and I always try to find the best items for you with the best price possible!
I have way more hashtag lists for you!
Check out these hashtag lists for Instagram too – I have created all of them in order to help your posts get the attention they deserve!

Searching for the right hashtags each and every day can be really bothering.
Luckily, if you are too lazy to do that, there’s a secret tool you can use! It’s called Tailwind and it was known originally for rocking everyone’s Pinterest Game.
And last year, Tailwind released “Tailwind for Instagram“ – an Instagram scheduler with some really cool functions. One of these functions is their Hashtag Finder for Instagram and it really AWESOME!
I loved the tool so much that I wrote an entire blog post about it – including a video showing the hashtag finder in action!
