As long as I can remember, I have been a fan of Lufthansa. I have been flying Lufthansa Business Class within Germany countless times and I highly value their service quality. We even booking our round the world ticket with Star Alliance (which Lufthansa is part of)
But there is a big difference between flying Business Class on short-haul vs. long-haul flights. So, when I finally went on a long-haul Business Class flight with Lufthansa (on my return flight from Dubai), I knew I would do a proper Lufthansa Business Class review.
Let’s see if Lufthansa can live up to the expectations that you would have when flying a Skytrax 5 star airline! 🙂

The Lufthansa Business Class Lounge at Dubai Airport (DXB)
Lufthansa operates two lounges in DXB – a Business Class Lounge and a Senator Lounge. The Senator Lounge is only open to Lufthansa Loyalty Members with Senator Status or First Class Passengers with Star Alliance Carriers.
As Markus did currently not hold a Senator Status as we traveled, we “only” had access to the Business Class Lounge.
It is a further small functional lounge, but it hold all the amenities you need. There is free showers, a small selection of hot and cold food and self-serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Compared to the signature lounge in Frankfurt, this lounge in DXB is rather unimpressive – but definitely good enough to spend a few hours before your departure. And try some German sweets (Gummibears and Smarties) and some German beer (Paulaner)!
At around 1 am it was time to head to our boarding gate. Business class boarding was swift and uncomplicated and we entered the front of the plane through a separate gangway without having to wait.
Lufthansa Business Class Seats
The main reason we decided to fly Lufthansa Business Class were the seats. We were on an overnight flight, so having a full-flat seat was pretty appealing.
Markus and I were flying on a A330-300 with a 2-2-2 configuration in Business class.
Upon online check-in only middle seats were available adjacent to each other (we were on separate bookings). We checked in online and planned to ask for window/aisle seats upon meeting ground staff. And when we asked during boarding, Lufthansa confirmed, that we could sit at a window + aisle (namely 4 A+C). We got new boarding passes within seconds and happily looked forward to a final view over Dubai at night.
It was great to see ground staff doing their best to meet our request and making it work – it is exactly those things that make Lufthansa a 5 star airline with Skytrax!
So let’s get back to the seats: The seats are wide enough for curvy people like me and long enough for tall ones like Markus – so you won’t run into problems here. And as mentioned, the seats in Lufthansa Business Class fully recline into a full-flat bed. If you don’t want to lie flat yet, you have various options to control your seat and make sure that you feel nothing but comfortable.
The in-flight entertainment system
On a plane, you will spend most of your time watching movies, eating and sleeping. So let’s have a look at the entertainment system in this Lufthansa Business Class review.
Lufthansa business class seats come with a large screen that can be used with touch or with a remote. Due to the distance of the monitor from the seat in business class, most people tend to use the remote.
Lufthansa’s in-flight entertainment system offers a nice selection of modern films that has something in it for ever age class. It is the same offering in business class as in economy class and I think Airlines like Air New Zealand (which I experienced on my Round the World ticket with Star Alliance) and Qatar do have a more extensive offering.

But even though Lufthansa does not have the most extensive in-flight entertainment system that I have seen – I’d be surprised if you wouldn’t find a proper film or some series to watch before going to bed!
The Lufthansa Business Class Amenity Bag
The importance of the amenity bag was already pointed out by my mother, requesting it to be brought along for my sister. (Mission accomplished!)
Apart from this very personal significance, the set looked sleek and contained everything you would need on this flight (earplugs, sleeping mask, socks, toothbrush and tooth paste). On top there were some small high quality cosmetics from L’Occitane (lipgloss, handcream).
Stupidly, I forgot to take a picture before handing over the treasures to my mom. 🙂
The Food at Lufthansa Business Class
As this was a rather short flight (slightly over six hours) Lufthansa was serving a light snack and a breakfast.
There was three items for the light snack (fruits, pastrami + chicken, baclava) of which I chose the hearty pastrami version. Along with it, I ordered a Chardonnay and a sparkling water (FINALLY after months. I am very German when it comes to water!). The Chardonnay was young and fresh with citrus notes. I personally prefer the old style oak barrel version – but I know that I am the minority here!
The pastrami and the chicken was fresh and tasty as well and perfect as long as you already had some dinner in the lounge!
The moment I woke up, a friendly stewardess directly offered me breakfast. There were three options available – scrambled eggs, musli + cold cuts and sweet crepes. I went for the sweet version and Markus took the scrambled eggs. Both dishes were really tasty and a good start into the morning.
Along with your choice Lufthansa serves fresh orange juice, tea and coffee, bread rolls, a mini musli and fresh fruit.
Lufthansa Business Class Service
Lufthansa’s service was immaculate as expected. AI have flew Lufthansa I’m both economy as well as business many times on short-haul and I know how perfectly coordinated their service is. I was not disappointed during this flight from Dubai to Frankfurt.
Staff will personally greet you with name and title and make sure you are aware who is responsible for you. They will personally welcome you and offer you drinks the moment you sit. We ordered a second drink while still on ground (champagne) that arrived within seconds.
After reaching flight height, Lufthansa’s flight attendants will offer you fresh towels and ask for your snack wishes (the menu was provided on ground already). They also quickly reacted when Markus spilled his beer over me 😂
Final verdict in this Lufthansa Business Class Review
So, did Lufthansa live up to my expectations when flying their Business Class product on long-haul?
Yes they did! And the main reason is not the food or the drinks (which were good) nor is it the comfortable full-flat seats: It is their service quality that was just outstanding. You really feel treated as a valued customer when flying in Lufthansa Business Class.
Well, now all I have to do is flying their first class product one day and comparing it to my most luxurious flight on Singapore Airline’ Suites class!

I have a question. They are supposed to have priority check-in in business class. What does that mean?
Hi Gail, Priority Check-in means that you have a dedicated counter where you can get your boarding pass, just for business class customers. Usually there is no line or a very short line and thus, it is much quicker and more convenient than Economy Class Check in
