Steps to find your perfect travel blog name
Don’t worry if you are absolutely clueless about what you want to name your travel blog at the moment. I will guide you through some steps to come up with an idea for an attractive travel blog name and will give you plenty of inspirational lists along the way!

What will your travel blog be about?
First of all, you need to define what your Niche is. And no “travel blog” is not a niche. You need to nail it further down to make sure that your travel blog name resembles your topic and is unique, catchy and easy to understand!
Some possible niches that your travel blog could be about:
- Family Travel
- (Solo) Female Travel
- Couple Travel
- Backpacking / Budget Travel
- Luxury Travel
- Adventure Travel
- Wellness/Spa Travel
- Foodie Travel
- Disney Travel
- Cruises
- Hotel Reviews
- Airline Reviews
- Travel is Life
- Travel Babbo
Find your “secret blogging superpower”
Do you have trouble finding your niche and deciding on your actual topic for your blog?
Then you probably don’t know your “flow state” and your “superpowers”! And while that sounds as if I would be talking about a superhero comic (I am always open to that!!!) – that’s not the case.
I learned the terms (and how to use them in the world of blogging) in an awesome Blogging Course by AdventureInYou called the “Blogging Fast Lane“. Anna and Tom (the founders of the Blogging Fast Lane Course) are really good at helping you to figure out and nail down what your blog will be about.
Their course comes with various videos and workbooks that will definitely help you to nail your blog focus down. This blogging course is, hands down, the reason for my own blogging success!

Check what other travel blogs names are used
Look at the names of other travel blogs in your niche. This can help you find inspiration for an attractive blog name! Also, you want to make sure that you don’t take a name that is too similar to what you choose – after all, you want a unique travel blog name!
Let’s look at some of the biggest travel bloggers out their and their catchy travel blog names:
- Nomadic Matt
- The Planet D
- Goats on the Road
- Adventure in Yiu
- Adventurous Kate
- The Blonde Abroad
- Expert Vagabond
- Legal Nomads
- Wandering Earl
- Anywhere we roam
- Young Adventuress
- Explore With Erin
- Mapping Megan
- Hippie in Heels

If these names are not enough, Matthew (Expert Vagabond) has a travel blog directory that will definitely give you some inspiration!
Decide if you want to include your name
Depending on the main topic you chose for your blog, you should decide how “personal” your blog is supposed to be.
If you plan to write a lot of personal travel stories, it can be a good idea to include your own name into your travel blog name. Because it will make it easier for your audience to connect with you and remember YOU as a person. That’s what “Adventurous Kate” and “Nomadic Matt” do. People love reading their stories and they all know that this blog is written by, well, Kate or Matt!
However, if your topic is more informational, say, Hotel Reviews, it might not make a lot of sense to choose a catchy travel blog name that has your name in it. I am not saying, you can’t do it. You can still have a blog called “Hanna’s Hotels” – it is just not so common to do.
Brainstorm some ideas for your travel blog name
Next, sit down and write down at least ten ideas for your travel blog name.
Here’s a couple of lists of words that you can combine with your topic or your name in order to create some of these ten or more unique travel blog names!
Travel related words to add before your name
Add these words in front of your name to generate some ideas for your unique travel blog name (e.g. “Traveling Tanja”):
- Adventures with/by …
- Adventurous …
- Backpacking …
- Explore with …
- Mapping …

- Traveling … (be careful to also check Travelling when checking domains!)

By the way, you might have noticed that I sorted this list alphabetically. I personally like it when people use alliterations (meaníng that two words beginning with the same letter) – like “Mapping Megan” or “Explore with Erin”. However, some people think it’s cheesy – in the end, it’s up to you!
Travel related phrases to add behind your name
And these words can be added behind your name to form a catchy travel blog name. Most of the time you will have to add an “s” behind your name to make them work (eg. “Hannas Little Adventures”).

Blog name ideas for personal blogs with lifestyle content
Some bloggers do not “only” blog about traveling, but might also include some other content like fashion, beauty, makeup, baking/cooking or crafting. That’s a “lifestyle blog”!
And if your “lifestyle” is traveling, you could definitely think about having a “travel lifestyle blog”. (In fact, we do have some lifestyle topics on Fernwehsarah.com as well – like my outfit guide to Disneyland!)
But if you plan to do a lot of lifestyle stuff, you could also consider using one of the phrases below to combine with your name to generate a “lifestyle blog name”

Region / Destination specific travel blog names
If you plan to write about only one region or country, you can use these phrased to add to your destination to come up with an attractive travel blog name!

Be careful to be not too specific with the destination as you might change your travel blog focus later and these names do otherwise limit you quite a lot.
Example: If you plan to write about the Philippines mostly, you might want to write about Indonesia too later. Then you’ll be really happy if you decided on “Chronicles from Southeast Asia” instead of “Stories from Boracay”!
Travel Blog names that do not include a name/destination
If you decided that your travel blog name should not include your personal name(s), then you will need to combine some words with something that your blog is about.
- … and … (“e.g. “Planes and Champagne”, “Love and London”, “Sugar and Stamps”)
- [3 Words] (e.g. “Travel Live Repeat”, “Go See Explore)
- Chasing … (e.g. “Chasing Beaches”)
I especially like the versions where people combine two words with “and” in-between. Here’s a couple of words that are somewhat travel-related and that might work for you:
- Passports
- Suitcases
- Backpacks
- Coconuts
- Sunsets / Sunrises
- Flip Flops
- Stamps
- Postcards
- Maps
- Compasses
You could combine these words to creations like “Suitcases and Sunsets”, “Coconuts and Postcards”, “Passports and FlipFlops”…
You can also try the version for names with something that describes you, like “Girl on the Move”, “A Family Explores”, “Brunette meets world”, “A backpacker in Transit”.
Brainstorm something that describes you and that would feel comfortable “being reduced too”.
For example, if Markus and I would choose a new travel blog name, we could use something like: “A Couple”, “Two Germans, “German Couple”, “Two Nerds” (FOR SURE!). We could then name our blog “Two German Passports” or “Two Nerds on the move”, “German Couple meets World” or “A couple and the globe”!
Travel blog names for couples
Coming up with an attractive travel blog name for couples is even more difficult because, often, you can’t just simply use your name and add something.
Why? Well, because your travel blog name will simply turn out too long! If you name your blog “Ramona and Sebastian on the Move” that’s just a lot of letters. Look at how the domain would look like: https://www.ramonaandsebastiononthemove.com/…
In most cases, travel couples opt for names that do NOT include their personal names and this is also what I would recommend you to do!
If you want to explicitly show that you are a travel couple, here’s a couple of ideas what you could use:
- Two wanderers/travel(l)ers/wayfarers/souls/adventurers abroad/away/everywhere
- Two [your nationality] Passports
- A couple and a [travel word, e.g. Sunset, Coconut….]
A really popular way to create a catchy travel blog name for couples is to use the word “Two”. Even though it could be two friends traveling together, most of the time, people assume this is a couple blog.
If you choose to use the word “couple”, try to add an adjective like “adventurous”, “curious”, “quirky” and see if this gives a cool travel blog name for couples! (e.g. “Adventurous couple abroad”)
Keep in mind that if you use “couples” instead of “couple”, you are actually referring to your audience – to other travel couples (which can be really good, branding-wise!)
Think about adding a word in your language (if it is not English)
Some of our readers think that “Fernweh” is my last name. I often get emails like “Hey Sarah Fernweh….”- Well, I guess that gives you the most important issue with using a foreign word while writing in English: People might not understand it.
But then again, it also tells a story about us. And it makes sure that our German reader do know that we are German even though we write in English mainly.
(By the way, “Fernweh” is a German word that means something like being “far sick” – the opposite of “homesick” – and it’s just perfect for someone like us that constantly feels the need to travel the world)
So this decision isn’t really an easy one to take. Unusual travel words can make up awesome unique travel blog names – e.g. “Solivagant Adventuress” (PERFECT for solo female travel and NOT taken yet 🙂 )
Mistakes to avoid when choosing your travel blog name
There are a couple of things you should definitely think of or avoid when choosing a travel blog name. Do you quick check on your brainstorming list of any of these are problematic!
1) Do not limit yourself for later
Right now, you might be a 20-year-old girl that loves budget backpacking. Or a 33+35-year-old couple that loves Marriott hotels. But if you call your blog “Budget Backpacking Youngster” or “The Marriott Couple” you are limiting the topics you can write about.
That’s okay if you really are sure that you will ONLY write about that niche. But last January, I figured out that eventually, you stop being 20 something … (I know, bad joke…)
No, seriously, think about your future “blogging me” too – maybe one day, you’ll come across an awesome Hyatt hotel and you want to tell about that too. Or, like Markus and me, you notice that naming your travel blog after one person is kind of weird if you are a couple (surprise!)
2) Make sure your name is not at risk of being misspelled
If exchange letters in order to make your name more creative (or to get the Domain), there’s a serious risk that people will misspell it and not find your site. (e.g. “SheTravelz”). That’s something you definitely want to avoid.
In some cases, you can limit that risk simply by purchasing two domains (you should do that e.g. for everything that includes “traveling/travelling” as both spellings are correct and used). But in most cases, I would try to avoid these names!
3) Don’t make your travel blog name too long
Google hates long URLs. And people can’t remember them. AND it kinda looks uncreative and unprofessional. While “A German nerd couple traveling the world” might be a good description for Markus and me – that is really not a catchy travel blog name! Keep it short and simple!
Blog name generators – do they work?
When I collected ideas about how to write a post about choosing the perfect travel blog name, I came across a number of Blog Name Generators like NameBoy, NameMesh, etc.
And it really sounded tempting to use a Generator instead of doing all that brainstorming work myself. But did it work?
Simple answer: No. None of the generators did give me ANY usable ideas for how to name a travel blog. It basically only showed a combination of the words I typed in myself. That’s nonsense…
And that’s why I created my OWN travel blog name generator for you!
It’s not something super complicated – but it will do it’s job! Basically it is Google Spreadsheet that you can copy. Then you enter your name and gender and our travel blog name generator will give you 10 unique blog names based on the ideas we described above!

Check if the domain and social media handles are free
When I first started on Instagram, my name was “saraharoundtheworld”. But unfortunately, a travel blog with that name already existed. So I couldn’t use this name for my blog and so I came up with “Fernwehsarah” and changed all my social media handles to this.
Once you come up with at least ten different ideas for domain names, check that your travel blog name ideas are still available as domains and social media handles! One thing that makes some social media handles difficult is the number of letters they allow you to use!
You need to check at least the following:
- The .com domain
- (your country’s domain – in Germany that is .de)
- Instagram (30 letters)
- Pinterest (30 letters)
- Twitter (14 letters)
- Facebook Page
- Youtube (20 letters, only allows a custom URL after meeting some requirements)
Discard the name if only one of them is taken! I know, this will be hard, but trust me – you don’t want to be mistaken. Even if you don’t plan to actively use these channels, you should ALWAYS get the handles! And don’t even think about using a dash for your domain name or a point/underscore for the social media handles!
And I can’t stress enough how important the .com Domain is. EVEN if you plan to blog in another language and your local one is taken.
Don’t even think about just taking the local one. There’s scientific evidence that the .com domain has the highest trust levels and you should at least own it and forward it to your local domain!

And there’s a really cool website that lets you check most of the social media handles and domains for a name with just one click – NameCh_k! (However, you should probably double-check once you decided for a name!)
Ask your friends about their opinion!
Once you have some ideas for a travel blog name and you have checked that the .com Domain and all social media handles are still available – ask some friends and family!
Sometimes we fall in love with something and we don’t question it anymore. That’s cool for some things in life – but not so much for your personal brand. And your blog is going to be your brand. So you need to make sure that your blog does actually help you and that people like it. That’s why you need other people’s opinions on that too!
You could start a short survey (on Facebook or even Survey Monkey) on your TOP 3 candidates and see what your friends and family have to say about your travel blog names!
