SarahOne of the traditional things to eat in China is Hot Pot – and you can’t miss this one if you are in Shanghai!
Haidilao is a chain with branches in Shanghai and a lot of people claim it was the best hot pot they ever had!
So when I got to Shanghai with Markus it was of course set that we will to go there! Luckily, one branch was less than 300m from our Hotel and so I had dinner there on a Friday evening – which is probably the worst time to visit as it is incredibly popular.
But don’t worry- they have a waiting area and you get a number. Let me repeat that: A WAITING area. It even comes with games, Origami paper, free drinks and some snacks while you look at the menue! 😜
When it’s time for you to eat you will be led to tour table by super friendly staff which will do their best to speak English with you and even use tablets with translated questions on it!
So here’s how Hot Pot works: First, you choose a base (or 2 or 4) and then meat, fish and veggies. I recommend getting a spicy one (careful!!!) and the tomato-based Hot Pot – then you simply have more choice! What’s really cool at Haidilao Hot Pot is that you can order the dishes half size so you actually have more choice when you at not that many people!
Haidilao is not the cheapest place to get Hot Pot but to me it was a good value as we payed ~30€ for two people including beer and LOTS of food! 😊
