Maybe you already read my article about Roadtripping and Freedom Camping New Zealand and decided to go with the budget version as we did (Awesome choice!)

We really loved doing freedom camping but being on a trip round the world, we didn’t have a lot of things with us that would have made this even easier. Some of the stuff we bought on the road but some was simply too big/heavy/hard to get. But if I were to go on this trip again and fly there from Germany, here’s what I would pack and why:

Unhack the electricity problem:

Cooking on the road unlocked

  • Spillproof food containers for the food (the Ice in your cooling box WILL melt and your food WILL be floating in it – no prob for your milk bottle, but not so nice with your already opened cheese)
  • A lighter – trust me, the gas stove so often doesn’t light up on its own even, though it should

Make this your personal little freedom camping cave

  • Fairy lights (battery powered, warm white, 50-100 lights) – saves car battery and is a beautiful light at light
  • AUX cable – the radio reception is pretty bad and your music is better anyway, isn’t it?!
  • A portable loudspeaker – better than draining the battery overnight for music
  • Thin pareo or other pieces of fabric – not all vans have curtains and you want privacy 🙂
  • pocket sizep gaff tape – for fixating those fairy lights and curtains to your car

I hope these tips will help you enjoy your freedom camping trip in a budget campervan even more! Tell me if you think i missed an item that is helpful on this journey!
